This isn't your typical "freebie", but Sephora has some amazing promotions.  With a $50 purchase, you receive free shipping, a free item from their Weekly Specials page, and any 3 Free Samples from a wide selection. I liked the 1oz B&B Hairdresser's Invisible oil primer for my weekly special.  I've used B&B products in salons a few times before so I'm excited to see what this one can do for me.  As my free samples, I was disappointed that Thierry Mugler's Alien was no longer an option, but I chose the 0.05oz Amazon Lily spray sample, a carded sample of Fresh Life, and a new brand I'm anxious to try, a 0.03oz Caudalie Premier Cru the Crème sample.  Bonus for me!  Sephora threw in a 0.05oz Couture La La spray sample and a carded sample of Marc Jacobs' new fragrance Daisy Eau So Fresh.  I like me some daisies!

nibblr Box (June 26, 2014)

I was already skeptical of the nibblr Box, because so much of their site, ingredients, combinations, were strikingly similar to the Graze Nibblebox.  My initial boxes from Graze were innovative and delicious, but then they just struck out.

Unfortunately, that is the same experience I had with nibblr.  When I saw I could get my first box free, I decided I would try it.  I found the snacks boring and not very tasty.  Here's what I got:

1)  Coco's First Date (dates, almonds and toasted coconut snack mix) - Had almost zero flavor.  It was just coconut, almonds and dates that were covered in a sweet coating... very boring.

2)  Punched Up Pistachios (salt and pepper pistachios) - These were okay, a little strong, just something you can get at almost any grocery store.

3)  Curry Up (coconut curry pretzel pearls, toasted coconut, and pistachios snack mix) - Was a very interesting flavor, obviously reminiscent of Indian or Thai cuisine, but the textures and ingredients just fell a little flat.  And having two coconut snacks in one box is a bit disappointing.

4)  Red, White and Boom (shortbread cookies, blueberries and raspberries snack mix) - The blueberries and raspberries had zero moisture to them, they were crunchy, very weird.  And the cookies didn't have any taste.

If my review seems harsh, especially considering that this box was free, it's only because I'm being honest.  I would have just expected them to want to wow me with the first box to keep me as a subscriber.

Sephora Christmas In June for ME!

OHMIGOSH!  I was so excited to get my order from Sephora today.  Sephora has EVERYTHING!  I want so much stuff.  I need to try it all.  My wishlist is practically the entire website.  But you know what's awesome?  Sephora has travel/trial sized kits so you CAN try everything.

I always watch these sites that offer free samples and/or have special deals and/or give free shipping if your order is over a certain amount, and Sephora always fits the bill.  You can always get free shipping on any order over $50.  You get three Free Samples with ANY order, and you can select from a wide variety of ever-changing fragrance, skin care and hair care products  But my favorite part is the Weekly Specials and Fragrance Deals.  A $25 purchase is usually all that's required for any of the AH-mazing weekly specials.  The amounts vary for the fragrance deals.

This order was kind of a sampler pack for me.  There are quite a few high end products that I have been wanting to try out, but did not want to commit to the full-sized purchases.  Here's my new toy chest of beauty products:

I've used Ouidad YEARS ago, and I loved it, so it was a no-brainer for me to want to give this brand another shot.  At $27, the Ouidad Curl Essentials Starter Kit includes:

*  2.5 oz Clear & Gentle Essential Daily Shampoo
*  2.5 oz Balancing Rise Essential Daily Conditioner
*  2.5 oz Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel
*  2.5 oz Botanical Boost Moisture Infusing & Refreshing Spray

A retail value of $31, this kit comes in a nice little travel bag.

Philosophy is a new brand to me, and one that I have really wanted to try.  The reviews are phenomenal.  The Welcome Philosophy Girl Kit was a complete steal.  It retails for $25, but at least for now, you can get it from Sephora for $10, and it includes:

*  1 oz Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Face Cleanser
*  1 oz Amazing Grace Shampoo, Bubble Bath & Shower Gel
*  0.4 oz Hope in a Jar
Original Formula Moisturizer
Benefits is another one of those brands that I've never tried, but have heard so many good reviews about.  Especially the products included in this kit:

*  0.25oz The POREfessional Primer temporarily erases pores.
*  0.25oz Girl Meets Pearl is golden-pink luminizer gives your face an exquisite, dewy glow.
*  0.25oz That Gal primes and brightens your skintone to take you from dull to darling.
What pushed me to go ahead and hit that "Order Now" button was the weekly special.  Since I already had the Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Travel Kit on my wishlist, finding the 1oz deluxe sample of the oil primer was perfect. This multitasking primer is infused with six different feather-light oils for complete hair transformation. It has been shown to make hair softer, smoother, silkier, and less tangled as it tames frizz and protects against breakage from heat and UV radiation—all without weighing hair down. It also features a pleasant scent with sweet, fruity hints and tropical touches.

I've only ever tried Bumble & Bumble products in salons, but have been ecstatic with the results each time.

The sample choice was great, even though I've gotta admit that I was a little bummed that the Alien by Thierry Mugler fragrance sample was no longer available.  I chose:

*  0.03oz Caudalie Premier Cru the Crème sample
*  0.05oz Amazon Lily by NEST Fragrances eau de parfum spray sample
*  Fresh Life eau de parfum carded sample

And Sephora surprised me with a couple extras they picked out:

*  0.05oz Couture La La by Juicy Couture eau de parfum spray sample
*  Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs eau de toilette carded sample

I gotta say, I received a lot of great product for my $58.30.  I'm giddy with anticipation to try EVERYTHING!  I'll definitely revisit this blog post to review these products.

Until then, have fun maximizing your money!!!

Julep Packages I Received This Past Week

The folks at Julep have me eating from the palms of their hands, between Savvy Deals, coupon codes and the "Secret Store".  I'm just not very fond of the monthly box selections so I'm constantly on the lookout for other ways to get what I want for little to nothing.

The first four I received I spoke about a little in my post, Julep (Welcome Box - May 2014).  I got Shannon, a Spring honeydew silk with my promotional welcome code for 50% off ($7), and the other three from the "Secret Store".  Catrina, a marigold yellow crème was on sale for $3, and the two-pack (Vision of Love) including Bailey, a hyped cobalt blue, and Ramona, a muted lavender rose crème, only cost me $10.

Bailey and Ramona will be used on a massive manicure project, which is an endeavor I will probably embark on in the fall when college basketball season starts back up.  I've already got my decals, pearls and rhinestones!  YAY!

I had my eye on a lovely golden apricot shimmer, Saaya, and had seen a quote on the Glycolic Hand Scrub that perked my interest:

"After one use of Glycolic Hand Scrub, my dry hands felt so much softer!” -Emily, Sneak Peek Maven

The coupon code search was on!  And as if a sign from above, coupon code "POLISHPERK" came into my life.  Buy the hand scrub, made with natural apricot seeds, at regular price of $23, receive a free polish ($14 value).

Now I'm finished, right?

Well, then I get a Facebook invitation to RSVP for their "Red Marker Sale"... with items "up to 85% off" and "polishes starting at just $2".  I can't say that the selection was great, but the prices were phenomenal.  In fact, I kinda wanted to return the two polishes (Kimberly, a black speckled wisteria crème, and Nadia, a sun-kissed golden frost), but at 2 bucks a pop... I suppose I'll use them at some point.  The best deal I got was the Julep Glow On Age Defying Hand Brightener.  A regular $32 hand cream that contains rare African plant extracts clinically proven to block melanin production and reduce hyper-pigmentation, it visibly minimizes the appearance of fine lines and age spots on your hands while adding radiant glow and evening skin tone.  I got it... for $6.

LADIES, if you're in your 20's, please for the love of God, start using exfoliating hand scrubs and anti-aging creams.  When it's too late, it's awfully hard (and expensive) to reverse.  That first age spot can be devastating.  And one day you'll look at your hands and wonder when they got so old-looking.  STOP IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

Here's a look at my two most recent home manicures a la Julep (Saaya on the left, Catrina on the right):

Freebies & Samples I Got in the Mail W/E 06-21-14

Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer
No promotion available.

Origins' customer service is incredible.  On my last order, they were unable to fulfill the promotional deluxe sample that I requested, so they sent another product in its place.  When I contacted them to inquire about the substitution, they immediately sent out another deluxe sample as a token of their apologies.  I hadn't requested it or anything.  I just asked about the change of product.

Unfortunately, the item they sent was what I had purchased as full-sized in the first place.  So it'll go in my blog's promotional pile.  But, wow!  I felt like their most important customer.  I plan to be a long time buyer of Origins products.

Coca-Cola AHHzone Instant Win Game/LiveNation $25 Code
Promotion has ended.

Despite how it may appear on this post, I do actually list all of these promotions on my page, Contests, Giveaways and Freebies, while they are active.  Just usually by the time I receive the item(s) in the mail, they've ended.

So to get this $25 LiveNation code, all that I had to do was text a number daily with a key word, and surprise, I won!  Unfortunately, I just could not find a show or merchandise that I wanted.  Instead I opted to get this Abby Cadabby doll for my 2-year old niece, appropriately named Abigail.  I believe she will love it. :-)

TotalBeauty Ultimate Sampler Collection

What a steal!  For only $17, receive over $80 in full-sized products and deluxe samples.  And using a promo code for 15% off, it was an even better deal at $14.45.  Included in the kit are:

*  Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Face Spa - Full Size (1 mask):  A fabric mask infused with serum providing a quick and easy beauty boost.  Instantly revives, illuminates and de-stresses.

*  ALFAPARF Cristalli Liquidi Serum - Deluxe Sample (approx. 0.17oz):  A new dimension in luminosity... an exclusive combination of the unique shine of linseed extract with the luxurious sparkle of diamonds.  This microcrystalline illuminating serum adds more light, shine and softness to ever hair type.  Linseed extract and Vitamin E anti-oxidant seal the hair cuticle, making hair more manageable.

*  Tata Harper Rose Floral Essence - Deluxe Sample (approx. 0.05oz):  This daily moisturizing booster delivers long-lasting moisture and minimizes pore appearance, help enhance performance of moisturizers and anti-aging treatment products, and instantly refreshes and hydrates skin for a healthy glow on-the-go.

*  The Honest Company Lotion - Travel Size (1oz):  Contains NO harsh chemicals, is a rich blend of organic olive oil, calendula and aloe designed to rehydrate, nurture and moisturize any skin type, and is hypoallergenic/dermatologically tested and approved.

*  Purlisse Pur-Moist - Full Size (1.7oz):  Vitamin E turns back the hands of time by reducing tell-tale aging and giving skin a boost against environmental damage.  Exclusive blend of French marine plants helps skin retain moisture and prevents the appearance of fine lines.  White tea and blue lotus offers superior skin soothing abilities and fights free radicals.

*  Juara Candlenut Body Creme - Sample Size (0.17oz):  Inspired by beauty secrets from Bali and ancient Indonesian beauty treatments.  JUARA focuses on maintaining skin health and beauty by creating premium products that are efficacious, elegant and enjoyable.  This rich, luxurious body crème provides the nourishing benefits of candlenut oil, known for its high content of essential fatty acids.  The unique properties of candlenut oil allow for superior skin penetration with a comfortable, velvet finish.

*  Neutrogena Natural Lip Balm - Full Size (0.15oz):  Moisturizes and soothes lips.  The long lasting formula with Vitamin E bionutrients heals dry skin and keeps lips health looking.

*  NYX Color Lip Balm in Merci - Full Size (0.14oz):  Cruelty-free and hypoallergenic.

*  NYX Roll On Shimmer in Blue - Full Size (0.052oz):  Cruelty-free and hypoallergenic.

This is a really great box.  The only products I will probably not use are the lip balm and eyeshadow, because pink and blue just don't work on my light complexion with dark hair.  So they'll go in the future giveaway pile.  But I can't wait to try the rest.  If I have time, I plan to revisit this post and update with reviews.

Until then...

Birchbox (June 2014)

June's Birchbox came last week but I had just received the May Birchbox and June's Beauty Box 5, along with a ton of samples in the mail, so I apologize that I am only now getting around to reviewing it.  Seems every other blogger on the net had theirs finished already.

This month's box was once again filled with more boxes. :-)

Actually everything appeared very elegant.  I'm feeling a little hoity-toity about trying it all, like I'm about to have my own little spa day.

Here we go:

1)  Coola Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face - Think I love this stuff.  It's very creamy and leaves a matte softness to your skin.  I was afraid of the tint because of my ivory coloring, but it didn't really make a difference.  The 0.17oz sample I would refer to as deluxe because it doesn't take much at all to coat your face.  I'll probably get at least ten uses from the small tube.

2)  Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion - This generous 1.5oz sample is an antioxidant-rich moisturizer that smooths and softens with botanicals like grape seed.  It goes on not too thick and dries quickly, leaving no greasy feeling on your skin, but instead a luxurious silkiness that lasts for hours.  There's not much of a scent.  It is just light and fresh.

3)  Folle de Joie Eau de Parfum - "A blend of mandarin, rose and sandalwood that evokes a carefree, summertime vibe."  Packaged in a nice 0.5mL spray bottle, the scent is little bit strong, and a little bit mature for me.  Sandlewood seems to be the base note so there's a muskiness to it.  The fragrance is not unpleasant at all.  It's just missing the freshness and clean smell that I prefer.

4)  Number 4 Hair Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner - The shampoo came in a 1oz bottle which should be good for two uses, but the conditioner was a foil packet.  I usually like foil packets even though there's normally only one application because of all the samples I receive, but not when it's conditioner.  I would have needed two to saturate all of my hair.  I used it along with a little of my normal conditioner.  Personally, I wasn't impressed with either product.  The smell is a tad old-ladyish.  Not too overwhelming but just enough to get on your nerves.

5)  Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator - This 20g tube is a good size for a long trial period.  I just didn't like the grittiness.  The micro-crystals were too small to get cleaned off well.  I'm still getting little chunks of exfoliate out of the corners of my eyes.

I was pretty blown away by my first Birchbox from May, which is good because I wasn't impressed with this one.  The body lotion and sunscreen were great finds, so it's worth it.  I will definitely be buying more Coola... or maybe I'll get lucky and get more in a future beauty box.

Until next month, remember your sunscreen!

Freebies & Samples I Got in the Mail W/E 06-14-14

Dove Advanced Hair Series Oxygen Moisture Samples from
This promotion has ended.

*  Shampoo (1oz)
*  Conditioner (1oz)
*  Coupon for $1.50 off any Dove Advanced Hair Series product
I haven't had the opportunity to try this product yet, but seems like a great deal, you know, being FREE and all.
Love 2 Love fragrance samples

*  Fresh Rose & Peach - Smells just like it's name states.  A little trite for my taste, but pleasant.

*  Jasmine & Sparkling Mimosa - A lovely, exotic but not overly floral fragrance.  Very nice for day wear.

Escada Born in Paradise fragrance sample

A tropical scent, a little overwhelming for me.  I pick up notes of pineapple, coconut and mango.  Great for that beach vacation in Hawaii.

U by Kotex

*  2 CleanWear Regular Pads
*  2 CleanWear Heavy Flow Pads
*  2 Curves Liners
*  Coupon for $1.00 off any U by Kotex product

WOW!  What an amazing freebie.  SIX pads in beautiful packaging, with a lovely brochure and a coupon.  Not only that, you don't have to choose the CleanWear set.  You can select that one, the Extra Maxi Pads set, Sleek Tampons set, or Click Tampons set.  This one is a must for all of the ladies out there.

Max Green Alchemy Scalp Rescue Shampoo, Conditioner and Styling Gel

At about 1/8oz each bottle, these are pretty tiny samples, but the cost is only 99 cents for postage.  I'm not sure that the sample size is really enough to properly evaluate the product.  I'll try to update with a review once I've had the opportunity to try the product.  According to the pamphlet enclosed, the Scalp Rescue line is full of active botanicals to rescue dry, flaky and itchy scalp (which I don't really have) by promoting scalp health and to revitalize damaged and lackluster hair (which I definitely do have), and pure organic essential oils provide an invigorating unisex aroma.

Real Purity makeup samples

Hahaha!  I'm sorry, but that's adorable!  Hey, it was FREE!  No complaints.

I chose the Lavender Rose lipstick from a variety of cosmetic samples they make available each month.  Creamy and hydrating, Real Purity lipsticks are all natural, non-allergenic, rich with antioxidants, and available in over 25 colors.  My lips dry and peel easily, especially with the wrong lip product, but this was a rich, very moisturizing lipstick.  Although this is not a color that works well on me, I will DEFINITELY be purchasing from them in the future.  BONUS:  It does not taste bad like most lipsticks, nor does it have that plastic-y flavoring.

Kate Somerville Age Arrest Anti-Wrinkle Cream
This promotion has ended.

Age Arrest’s advanced formula, based on telomere research, is proven to effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles, increase skin firmness and elasticity, improve the appearance of skin discoloration, and significantly hydrate.  CANNOT wait to try.  This 0.25oz sample is probably at least a week's worth so hopefully I'll see results.

Aveda Invati Sweepstakes
This promotion has ended.

*  Invati Exfoliating Shampoo (0.34oz)
*  Invati Thickening Conditioner (0.34oz)
*  Invati Scalp Revitalizer (0.34oz)

Origins Make A Difference Plus Rejuvenating Treatment, Origins Plantscription SPF 25 Anti-Aging Cream, and Ojon Rare Blend Deep Conditioner
This promotion is with $25 purchase

Although this wasn't your normal "freebie," I got a great deal.  For the same price of the 1.7oz Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer, I also received a 0.17oz GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream and a 0.17oz GinZing Brightening Mascara at no charge.  With my order I got to choose from several WELCOME promo codes that include 0.5oz trial sizes of their products, from which I chose one they did not have in stock, so not only did they send me what they did have available, they are sending me another trial sized product next week.  Also with purchase you can select from three 0.05oz samples.  AND with my package they included a 0.27oz sample of their new haircare line, Ojon.

                                                        *  Honey jojoba base

Beauty Box 5 (June 2014)

Right off the bat the thing I liked about Beauty Box 5, opposed to Birchbox, is that the products are not triple boxed, so way to save the planet, Beauty Box 5!  There are a bunch of paper crumples inside but that seems to just be a relatively biodegradable packing material to keep the samples from shifting too much.

This kit looked pretty awesome.  I was very excited to try all of the products.  All of the products are listed to the left, but as full sized and with the prices.  Even though there are five items listed, technically there was nine in the box.  I'll jump right in with my review.

1)  Organix Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner - each packet is 7.4mL, so just enough for one shampoo, but not quite enough for a conditioning.  It boasts being ultra-light and weightless, charged with electrolytes and coconut oil to give your hair a silky, healthy shine.  I loved the way my hair felt as I washed out the shampoo.  Usually it feels kind of coarse, like it's being stripped.  It was unfortunate that there wasn't enough conditioner.  I had to use my standby after rinsing it out.  Both had a nice smell, like pina colada.

2)  Eslor Introductory Collection Calming Kit - this one is very exciting.  The kit comes with a Soothing Refiner & Cleanser, a Replenishing Scrub, a Comforting Mask, and a Soothing Cream.  Each sample is 0.17oz.  Even though there's enough for two uses of each (with the exception of the mask), I pretty much just used it all up.  I liked each product.  They smelled light and refreshing, and didn't experience any discomfort from having sensitive skin.  The scrub was definitely my favorite.  The granules were not as rough as other scrubs.  There's definitely too much lotion to use up in one use, so I'll finish it up tonight before I go to bed.

3)  VitaBath Body Wash (Wild Red Cherry) - at 2oz, this is a nice sized, almost travel sized, bottle of body wash.  The fragrance is wonderful.  It really is reminiscent of a wild cherry.  When I stepped out of the shower my husband said that the whole house smelled like cherries.

4)  Nicka K New York Nail Color (FULL SIZE!) - there is no nail color listed on the bottle, but it looks like a true red to me.  Pulling the brush out, my first impression was that the bristles were quite wild, sticking out everywhere.  I was extra careful when applying.  What was surprising is that the color went on smoothly and only required one coat, no transparency.  I'm personally not a red polish kind of girl, but I liked the quality and consistency.  I would probably enjoy this in a different shade.

5)  Glam Natural Mascara - I'm not sure what size this is, small but pretty average for a sample.  I was disappointed in the quality.  As you can see from the pictures to the right, even though the lighting is clearly different, there was not much change in the appearance of my lashes, other than smooshing a few together.  It is vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic.  Unfortunately that does not really make it a worthwhile mascara to purchase.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the box.  The toiletry products alone made for a very luxurious shower experience.  The VitaBath was amazing!  I will totally be purchasing the full-sized version.  I'm not sure I would buy any of the other products though except maybe the coconut water shampoo.  I'd like to use the conditioner again to see if a larger amount would make a difference.  This is a great first Beauty Box 5, and I'm looking forward to my July box.

The (eBay) Glossybox I "Won"

I was under the impression I was buying the complete set of Bergdorf Goodman products from the May Glossybox.  That's what I get for not doing my research.  I did get 11 items, four of which came from the BG box, and the $25 BG gift card, so I'm trying not to beat myself up too much for what I paid to get a poor representation of the sold-out box I was really wanting.  I'll know better next time.  What's done is done.  Que sera, sera.  Don't cry over spilled milk.  Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.  Whatever.

The box I received included:
  • Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer (0.5oz) from BG
  • Alterna CAVIAR CC Cream (0.85oz) from BG
  • Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme Cologne Absolue (0.24oz) from BG
  • Lancer Eye Contour Lifting Cream (0.17oz) from BG
  • Aqua Spa Relax Body Crème (2oz)
  • Caldrea Body Wash No. 3 Coconut Fig Leaf (1oz)
  • Eva NYC Mane Tamer Leave In Conditioner (3.38oz)
  • Nelson J Beverly Hills Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask (0.5oz)
  • Dermis8 Exfoliating Soap Bar (0.88oz)
  • Mee Beauty Bee Nourished Eye Cream (0.25oz)
  • bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick (0.05oz)
Even though I was disappointed that I didn't get what I thought I was paying for, I have not tried any of these items so it will be fun trying out all of my new products.  I'm currently on subscription box/free-samples-in-the-mail overload so I won't be reviewing anything right now.  Maybe I'll revisit this post later on when I have time.

What I am absolutely tickled pink about is the purchase I made with my $25 gift card from Bergdorf Goodman.  An 8oz bottle of B. The Product Conditioned Perfected by Brandon Martinez.  Regularly $30, I paid only $5 (unless you count all the money I spent on the box, which I'm trying not to).  I adore high quality shampoos and conditioners.  This one has no sulphates, parabens or sodium chloride, but does have argan oil to add shine and soften, orange oil to seal cuticles, and pro-vitamin B5 to condition and add volume.  What a treat.  I will definitely update this post with a review of this product.

Until then, make sure you read the fine print when ordering from regular Joe's.
