Random Product Reviews - Perfumes

I've never been a big wearer of perfumes because I have an allergy to some.  In addition, most give me headaches.  But I'm a girl.  So I love them.  I've received quite a few minis recently in subscription boxes and as free samples when I've ordered from beauty product sites.  I thought I'd give you some info and my personal impressions of some.  Two thumbs up for my favorites, one thumb up if they're just okay, and no thumbs up if I think they're garbage.

Amazon Lily by NEST EDP - Inspired by the works of 18th Century British artist Mrs. Mary Delany, Laura Slatkin collaborated with master perfumers to translate these works of art into luxurious fragrances that capture the essence of each of the botanicals that adorn the products' striking packaging.  The notes are Brazilian lime, tangerine, Amazon lily, driftwood, and musk.  The style is radiant, fresh and uplifting.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $68.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This reminds me of an Amazon lily.  No, I've never actually smelled an Amazon lily.  But it's what I would imagine one would smell like.  It's clean, floral, and citrusy, with just a hint of musk.  I give it two thumbs up.

B. by Balenciaga EDP - A green woody fragrance, B. represents a woman unveiling her most essential self. The more she reveals, the more intriguing she becomes.  The notes are lily of the valley bell, violet green leaves accord, green edamame accord, iris root, cedarwood heart, ambrette seeds, and cashmeran wood.  The style is sophisticated, sensual and feminine.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $110.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is definitely a woodsy and floral, very feminine.  The violet shines through.  I give it two thumbs up.

Baiser Vole by Cartier - An extraordinary lily, rising and still innocent, reflecting youthful femininity. The notes are lily bud and lily leaves.  The style is fresh, warm and floral. The 1.6oz bottle retails for $85.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a really delicate, beautiful fragrance.  The lily scent is amazing with a light powder finish. Two thumbs up.

Candy Florale by Prada EDT - Candy declares her love for flowers. She takes on a new flirtatious game, where sensuality is pushed to the fullest.  The notes are sparkling cedrat, bouquet of cosmos, benzoin, caramel, and white musk.  The style is sensuous and coquettish.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $70.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a pretty standard fragrance.  It's sweet and floral, but no real notes stand out.  It's just pretty, but not terribly special.  I give it one thumb up.

Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana EDP - Dolce is a gentle, feminine mix of white flowers including white amaryllis, a South African flower used for the first time ever in scent. The notes are neroli leaves, papaya flower, white amaryllis, white daffodil, white water lily, cashmeran, musky notes, and sandalwood.  The style is delicate, joyous and avant-garde.  The 1.6oz bottle retails for $92.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  The flowers are a little overwhelmed by the musk and sandalwood and I cannot make out the individual notes, other than to say it definitely is floral.  My grandma might like this.  Well, not my grandma but some grandma.  I give this no thumbs up.

Flora Gorgeous Gardenia by Gucci EDT - Gorgeous Gardenia is a paean to the lightness of the shrub’s first blossom and the addictive richness of it in full bloom—the result is gorgeously feminine. The notes are red berries, pear, white gardenia, frangipani flower, patchouli, and brown sugar accord.  The style is charming, romantic and optimistic.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $77.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a really lovely scent, but maybe a little mature.  It has the sweetness of the brown sugar and obviously gardenia.  This is rare, but I give this one thumb up.  I see it on an older, refined lady.

Florence by Tocca EDP - A Parisian beauty and sophisticate, Florence conjures memories of old-world Paris.  The notes are Italian bergamot, grapefruit leaves, green pear, apple, ivory gardenia, crushed violet petals, jasmine, tuberose, blue iris, blonde wood, and white musk.  The style is sophisticated, romantic and feminine.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $68.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a heavily floral fragrance with hints of fruit.  I can smell so many different things when I sample this... the violets, jasmine, iris, gardenia, and then pear and apple.  I give it two thumbs up.

Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf EDP - This floral explosion releases a profusion of flowers that has the power to make everything seem more positive. Magically evocative notes immediately awaken your deepest senses, giving you the impression of living life in your own secret garden, away from reality. The notes are sambac jasmine, centifolia rose, cattleya orchid, ballerina freesia, and patchouli.  The style is oriental, gourmand and Floral.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $115.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  Man, that is a FLOWER BOMB!  My newly favorite male scent is Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf so I had high expectations for this fragrance.  While it is divine, it's a little powerful for my taste.  I will have to give it one thumb up, but for that extra confident woman, you will love it.

Guilty Diamonds by Gucci EDT - Made for the woman who shatters expectations, this fragrance imbues with a feeling of power, a sense that she can attain whatever she wants—even the thrill of the forbidden.  The notes are mandarin, pink pepper, peach, lilac, geranium, amber, and patchouli.  The style is daring, rich and sexy.  The 1.6oz bottle retails for $81.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is everything that is wrong with perfumes.  This is Eau de Old Lady Land.  I have no choice but to give this no thumbs up.

Hello by Harvey Prince EDT - Embrace your surroundings; reach out, smell, touch! The warm and soft rays of sunshine on your shoulders will keep you company through the day. Take a whiff and just say, "You had me at Hello."  The notes are Meyer lemon, white grapefruit, Satsuma mandarin, summer forsythia, pink plumeria, wild verbena, Tahitian vanilla, and sensual musk.  The style is welcoming, loving and refreshing.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $55.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  The name of this should have been Happy... Wait, there's already a perfume called that.  Well, this is a happy fragrance.  This summery scent hits you first with vanilla, but is quickly surrounded by florals and fruits.  I give it two thumbs up.

Joyful by Escada EDP - ESCADA Joyful is inspired by positivity and a joyful spirit. The luminous scent embodies the beauty of a bouquet of flowers.  The notes are blackcurrant sorbet, melon, mandarin, violet leaves, pink peony, dewy magnolia, nectarine, honeycomb, florymoss, and sandalwood.  The style is confident, urban and spontaneous.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $68.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  On the juvenile scale of scents, this is way up there.  It's too sweet and the individual notes cannot be distinguished.  As a woman as opposed to a girl, I have to give this fragrance no thumbs up.

Love Story by Chloe EDP - Floral, fresh, and sexy, Love Story is the new unforgettable essence of seduction from Chloe. The notes are neroli (orange blossom oil), stephanotis jasmine, physalis, and cedarwood.  The style is feminine, sophisticated and sensual.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $105.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a gorgeous perfume.  The jasmine is so super present.  I absolutely adore it.  Two thumbs up, definitely.

MYNY by DKNY EDP - Experience the urban, carefree, spirited new DKNY MYNY fragrance that's as eclectic and passionate as New York the city we love. Be a part of it!  The notes are raspberry, galbanum, pink pepper, Egyptian jasmine, freesia, orris, patchouli heart, vanilla absolute, creamy musks, and ambergris.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $68.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  No amount of Rita Ora can forgive the granniness of this perfume.  It's ridiculous.  No thumbs up.

Nirvana Black by Elizabeth and James EDP - Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black is the perfect balance between masculine and feminine.  The notes are violet, sandalwood, and vanilla.  The style is sensual, mysterious, and warm.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $75.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  I think this is so musky that it would probably be more suitable as a men's fragrance.  On a woman, it comes off as an old lady perfume.  I would not want to get stuck on an elevator with someone wearing this.  I give this no thumbs up.

Nirvana White by Elizabeth and James EDP - Elizabeth and James Nirvana White is a captivating blend for a feminine scent with dark sophistication.  The notes are peony, muguet, and tender musk.  The style is sophisticated, feminine and captivating.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $75.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  Ditto from Nirvana Black... with a tiny, unsubstantial bit of flowers included.  No thumbs up.

Rose Anonyme by Atelier Cologne (Cologne Absolue) - "She turned the dial until the safe opened, revealing the diamond. She had stolen jewels before, but none compared with this one. She left a single rose and the scent of her perfume in its place for him to find. In a moment she'd be halfway around the world and he would be in pursuit. The chase began again..."  The notes are bergamot from Calabria, ginger from China, Turkish rose essence, Turkish rose absolue, incense From Somalia, velvet oud accord, patchouli from Indonesia, papyrus from India, and benjoin from Laos.  The style is breathtaking, mysterious and exhilarating.  The 1oz bottle retails for $80.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  I didn't like the smell of this straight from the bottle.  It was harsh and alcohol-y.  But once it had penetrated my skin, and the alcohol scent left it, it was brilliantly rosy and the patchouli, incense and ginger were very exotic.  I give it two thumbs up.

Tory Burch by Tory Burch EDP - The first fragrance from Tory Burch captures classic elements in unexpected ways: feminine and tomboy, easy and polished.  The notes are neroli, grapefruit, bergamot, peony, tuberose, jasmine sambac, vetiver, and sandlewood.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $85.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  Another granny perfume.  There almost too much going on.  But none of it is happy.  I give this no thumbs up.

Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford EDP - Rich, spicy, and intensely floral, it evokes a warm exotic garden. The slim and elegant bottle is enhanced with bold vertical texture and the signature brassed nameplate.  The notes are cool citrus, floral petal notes, honey, and rum.  The style is lavish, dramatic and seductive.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $112.00.

MY IMPRESSION:  If that's not a man's fragrance, then I'm not a woman, because wow... musk.  It's only slightly floral, and then... musk.  I can only give this... no thumbs up.

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift EDP - Evokes the rush you get when you experience something magical.  The notes are freesia, apple blossom, raspberry, hibiscus, honeysuckle, vanilla, and amber.  The 1.7oz bottle retails for $49.50.

MY IMPRESSION:  This is a fragrance for girls.  It smells fruity, sweet and candy-like.  I had many of these type of perfumes when I was young.  They're fun and flirty for teens, but do not have the passion and sensuality that a needs.  Speaking strictly in terms of what a woman should buy, I have to give this no thumbs up.
